Getir UK Status: Why Ordering & Courier Jobs Ended (2025 Update)

Status Update: December 2025

If you have opened the Getir app recently hoping for a grocery miracle in London or Manchester, you likely noticed the digital silence. The purple motorbikes that once dotted UK high streets are gone. Getir is no longer operating in the UK.

The company officially announced its exit from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US on April 29, 2024. This wasn’t a pauseit was a full retreat to focus on their home market of Turkey. While the app is still downloadable globally, it no longer functions for orders on British soil.

The Rise and Fall of Getir UK

Getir Turkey was founded in 2015 by Nazım Salur, an entrepreneur who previously launched the ride hailing app BiTaksi. The premise was simple but expensive: deliver groceries in minutes. For a few years, fueled by massive venture capital investment, it felt like magic.

By late 2025, however, the economic reality caught up with the industry. The “growth at all costs” model that subsidized cheap delivery fees couldn’t survive high inflation and rising interest rates. Following a restructuring where BiTaksi was moved into a separate entity, Getir’s core business pulled out of Western markets entirely.

Can You Still Order from Getir in the UK?

In short: No.

The promise of “delivery in minutes” from Getir is no longer active in the UK. If you attempt to use the app today:

  • You may still find the app on the App Store or Google Play.
  • You cannot place orders to UK addresses.
  • Customer service lines for orders are inactive.

This shift isn’t unique to the UK. We saw similar market corrections across Europe, impacting Netherlands online shopping sites and German delivery sectors as well.

Getir Courier Jobs: Current Status for 2025

Previously, Getir was a major employer for riders, offering hourly wages rather than the “per drop” model used by competitors. However, with the April 2024 exit, approximately 1,500 UK based jobs were cut.

Registration is closed. If you see job listings for Getir riders on third-party recruitment sites in late 2025, they are likely outdated “zombie” listings. Do not apply.

New 2025 Requirements for Delivery Riders

If you are a courier looking for work with alternative platforms (like Deliveroo, Uber Eats, or Just Eat), be aware that regulations have tightened as of late 2025. You can no longer just hop on any bike and go.

The New Standards:

  • Insurance: You must have ‘Hire & Reward’ (H&R) insurance. Standard third-party insurance does not cover food delivery.
  • Mopeds (up to 125cc): You need a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate and a provisional or full UK driving license.
  • E Scooters: Private e scooters remain illegal on public roads. You can only use rental e scooters in government approved trial areas (extended until May 2028), and you must hold a category Q entitlement.

While the guaranteed hourly wage of Getir is gone, the gig economy remains active. Just ensure you are compliant with the new laws to avoid fines.

Where to Shop Now?

With Getir gone, UK consumers have returned to traditional supermarket deliveries or competing apps like Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The landscape of e-commerce continues to evolve globally. Whether you are looking at Zalando for fashion or exploring online shopping in Angola, the trend is moving away from subsidized instant delivery toward sustainable logistics.

Customer Service & Refunds

If you have an outstanding issue from the operational period, reaching Getir is difficult. The phone number +44 20 7048 6666 is still listed on many directories as of December 2025, but reports indicate it is no longer active for support.

The official support email was previously [email protected]. If you have legacy account data you wish to delete, this remains your best point of contact, though response times may be significant due to the reduced workforce.
